C-MACC Sunday Thematic & Weekly Recap 104

Will Inflation Curb Early Year Demand Strength?

  • As inflationary conditions persist and governments react to them, prospects for an economic slowdown are rising, but the party may not be over for chemicals yet.
  • Earnings reports discuss significant supply chain dislocations and input cost headwinds, suggesting pent-up demand and the potential for still higher prices.
  • Wind and solar industries face problems meeting demand. Other infrastructure initiatives should keep demand elevated in select end markets, like construction.
  • While oil and gas prices remain high (and in the case of gas, volatile), there is raw material support for chemicals and still a substantial US competitive edge.
  • Otherwise, earnings reports are increasingly leading with ESG initiatives, and we see 2022 as the year where pledges need to morph into plans.

Last week we discussed 32 Chemicals and related products and 166 Companies
