Visions Of China: Geopolitical Risk Is Rising – How Do You Plan?
- One of the central themes of the G7 has been the perceived rising threat of China on top of a less theoretical risk from Russia – Japan invited more possible allies.
- Large chemical and other industrial developments take years to build and many more years to generate returns – you now must model a less stable world.
- Geopolitical uncertainty of the 70s/80s was in a less connected world – G7 was 50% of global GDP in 1990 versus 30% now, and now dependent on global trade
- We look at improved, but still very weak chemical operating rates in Europe and question whether a round of permanent closures is imminent; good for US exports
- We note the US power regions that have a lot of renewables and not enough storage if we see weather anomalies, we also look at consumer spending
Last week we discussed 32 Chemicals and Related Products and 145 Companies.
