Is A Global Recession The Best Hope For Renewable Energy Goals?

  • Many renewable company equities have rallied with the surging price of crude oil, but constraints to their business growth in 2021 may continue through 2022.  
  • While the sense of urgency targeting renewable markets has risen, material (and labor) availability to install capacity has declined with Russia/Ukraine shutdowns.
  • We are not confident that required commodities will be available to meet future energy/renewable demand because of a lack of leadership foresight and urgency.
  • Conclusion: a recession may be inevitable but needed to cut material and energy demand, allowing renewable energy to invest while controlling inflation.
  • Otherwise, we address why messing with carbon mechanisms is a mistake, why recycling remains challenging, and why CCS will forge new alliances.
