The Black Knight Strikes Again – Constrained at Every Step or Hop

  • There has been plenty of criticism of the EU hydrogen plan – warranted in our view, as the parameters for support are too narrow and will limit progress.
  • The US will fall into the same trap if the hydrogen credit incentive is restricted to too narrow definitions around what constitutes permitted power sources.
  • We need low-carbon power (lots of it); so, subsidies that do not drive excessive demand for wind/solar power such that demand cannot be met and prices rise.
  • We revisit the potential Shell Director lawsuit that we covered on Sunday. These frivolous actions will inevitably constrain progress and consume time and money.
  • Otherwise, we look at another analysis around ammonia as a shipping fuel, an IEA forecast that likely underestimates natural gas demand and more on CCS.
