Blue Christmas Without You (“You” Being Green Policies in Europe)

C-MACC Weekly Sustainability and Energy Transition Report

Blue Christmas Without You (“You” Being Green Policies in Europe)

  • 1st Topic of the Week: The more time we spend thinking about the ramifications of the US election, the more convinced we become that it could mean good times for US blue hydrogen/ammonia/methanol producers. Other demands on European cash will give governments an excuse to pursue a less expensive transition.
  • 2nd Topic of the Week: Meanwhile, the outgoing US administration will try to push as much IRA money out of the door as possible in the next 6 weeks, and while we would like some for our low-cost power project, we expect some bad loans to emerge – and highlight the recent Li-Cycle deal.
  • Otherwise: We look at biopolymers, the almost inevitable opportunity for US carbon capture (permits should move faster now), why power prices are rising, some good and bad corporate decisions, and the travails of lithium.

Exhibit 1: EU defense spending has risen but will need to rise much more to keep the US administration happy
