It Sounds Corny: Energy & Materials Could Support The Crop Markets Long-term, For Better Or Worse.
Key Points:
- Using bio-based inputs, such as corn, in fuels and materials can cost more than conventional methods, lack scalability, and not be inherently green considering the entire production chain.
- Some LNG projects struggle with financing as borrowing rates rise, and buyers would rather not commit to 15-year offtakes – majors with deeper pockets should dominate from here.
- Dow and other quarterly releases show the benefit of lower feedstocks in the US, the headwinds of demand in Europe, and uncertainty and not much enthusiasm for the near term.
- We note another significant energy transition win for Linde, with Dow, and Dow’s support for Mura Technologies in recycling. Also, the Supreme Court raises litigation costs for oil companies.
- Supply chains have eased based on data and company reports – does this mean increased exports from China? Is there enough consumer demand in the West to take more?
